Phil Robertson to Receive Free Speech Award at CPAC

Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson will receive the Andrew Breitbart Defender of the First Amendment Award by Citizens United at this year's CPAC conference.

As we all know, the controversy of his show being canceled came from comments he made about homosexuality being sinful. The conservative backlash was much too strong and their voice was heard.

What is interesting to note is that Andrew Breitbart helped organize the conservative pro gay-rights group GoProud after they were denied a booth at CPAC. He loved to ruffle feathers, that is for certain.

President of Citizens United David Bossie had this to say:

"Even when the entire mainstream media demanded he disavow his beliefs and attempted to have him fired from his own hit show for expressing these beliefs, he stood firm in his faith,”

"A large part of Andrew Breitbart’s vision was that conservatives would take back modern pop culture, and the Robertson family have become some of the most popular and beloved media personalities today, while keeping God at the center of their family, business and their hit television show reports Kansascity.

"Phil has the guts to do and say what most politicians in Washington won’t,"  said Stephen K. Bannon of Breitbart

“Who would have thought that a show about family, guns, and God could become one of the most popular in cable history?” Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow asked rhetorically. “Andrew Breitbart did, actually. He believed that there is a huge market for entertainment focused on American and Judeo-Christian values. The success of ‘Duck Dynasty’ vindicates him, so it’s fitting that Mr. Robertson is the recipient of this year’s Breitbart award.” Breitbart.

"When one does not have the freedom to speak out loud and anywhere what one believes, freedom is dead,"  Robertson said.
