Despite the fact he already has shown the world how much he loves Chinese collectivism, despite his COVID-era lockdown attack on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and despite his celebration of a German NAZI last year in Parliament, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appears utterly desperate to expand his attacks on freedom.
Multiple conservative news sources are reporting on the latest: the massive fine and potential property seizure that Trudeau’s government will impose on Amish farmers for not complying to his insane, privacy-invading, travel surveillance diktats.
Selwyn Duke writes for The New American:
“Ontario’s Amish community is being fined $300,000 ($222,660 U.S.) for not downloading the Canadian government’s Covid app. This is even though Covid fear is about as far past its sell-by date as Joe Biden is. It’s even though religious freedom is supposed to be a priority in Western nations. And, for a kicker, it’s even though the Amish reportedly don’t use the smartphones necessary for downloading the app.”
The absurdity is obvious. But, even if the Amish did use such phones, or if one were to study how this imposition was forced on other, non-Amish people who use those phones, the imposition ITSELF is galling and corrupt.
Duke notes the work of two other sources, one of which is Canadian journalist and lawyer Ezra Levant’s Rebel News, and Levant’s team has joined with a pro-liberty legal organization to help the beleaguered Amish farmers, producing an excellent video that covers the multi-year history of this legal battle and digs into the dangers now posed to many Amish property owners in Ontario.
Writes Levant:
“One of Justin Trudeau’s stupidest rules during the Covid lockdown was to force Canadians to use the ArriveCan app whenever returning to Canada, or face a $6,000 fine.”
The Amish farmers frequently travel to the US (where the government ALSO attacks Amish farmers and their customers) in order to buy and sell wares, and, once “mandated”, this fine began to accrue, with each border-crossing… because, of course, the Amish don’t use phones.
Adding in parentheses, Levant slyly reminds readers of the obvious, then builds on the incredibly troubling tale:
“(You know who the Amish are, right? They’re a group of old-fashioned, religious farmers who came to Canada from Europe to escape religious persecution. They reject modern technology. They don’t use the Internet, or even electricity. They don’t have telephones and they drive around in horses and buggies.)
So imagine ordering the Amish to ‘download the ArriveCan app to their smart phone’.
Seriously. Not a single word in that sentence makes sense. But that’s what Trudeau’s border enforcers did.
The Canadian Amish go back and forth to the U.S. to visit other Amish communities. And every time they came back, they’d be hit with a $6,000 ArriveCan fine — every man, woman and child. It totalled hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
$300,000 Canadian, $222,660 American, of course.
And, since the Amish don’t go online and they eschew most modern tech, they were unaware of the growing fines, and unaware of the next Trudeau move: putting liens on their property.
Because, hey, why not add even more gangsterism to the already corrupt government activity?
“The pandemic ended — by the way, not a single Amish got sick, they told me. But then one day, an Amish farmer went to the bank to get a loan to buy some cattle, and he offered his farmhouse as security for the loan, as usual. But the banker told the Amish farmer he couldn’t use his farmhouse as security, because the government had put a lien on it, until the ArriveCan fines were paid!
Other Amish farmers checked, and they had the same liens put on their property, too. It was a total surprise — no-one had notified the Amish about that extreme tactic.
If you have a lien on your property, you can’t sell it, you can’t mortgage it, and you can’t hand it down from father to son. The entire Amish community was paralyzed by this brutal enforcement of the ArriveCan app, against people who don’t even have cell phones in the first place!”
Levant notes that Rebel News is working with The Democracy Fund and asking for donations to help cover the families’ legal fees, “…and so far, 25 different families have signed up for help.”

And the Trudeau attack could see thousands of acres of private property ripped away, families left impoverished, while their rights are dismissed and attacked by the faceless bureaucracy of government.
Some Canadians (and even some non-Canadians) who observe this tyranny recall a long-lost, mythological, legendary document… a strange, almost incredible document codified in 1982 called the Canadian CHARTER OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS. I’ve written about it many times while covering numerous examples of Canadian tyranny -- from the illegal lockdowns to today -- and we at MRCTV are not alone in trying to spread the word about how egregiously Trudeau and his cronies disregard that key promise set down in Canadian law.
Andrea Widburg writes about it for The American Conservative:
“Although Canada does not have a First Amendment, it does have a 1982 ‘Charter of Rights and Freedoms.’ According to that charter, Canada does have ‘freedom of religion.’ It’s so—ahem—important that it appears very early in the endless document, a Section 2(a). This section promises that ‘Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms: a. freedom of conscience and religion.’”
Of course, no political document is a valid claim of authority over any of us. It’s just a bunch of people writing down that they can control other people. But, within that context, when they write their purported rules for how they will usurp power, rules that “restrict” those areas of usurpation and carve out or reserve a little freedom left to us serfs, at least these generations of politicians could abide by those so-called rules.
The Amish plight is an example of just this kind of double-breach. No one has a right to claim authority over another thinking adult. Thus, the imposition of any political institution is an immoral act.
But at least those who engage in that initial act of usurpation could abide by the other constraints they supposedly promise to uphold.
In Canada, we have seen years of government activity that tells us Trudeau and his gang could care less about those promises. They want control, and even the Amish are in their crosshairs.
