Get ready.
The state of Oregon could be the first in US history to require all parents of newborns to submit to universal home visits by agents of the state.
No warrants. No due process.
Paula Bolyard reports for PJ Media:
Senate Bill 526, introduced this month in the Oregon Legislative Assembly as part of (Governor Kate) Brown's budget, orders the Oregon Health Authority to 'study home visiting by licensed health care providers.'
And Bolyard adds that eighteen state politicians feel so strongly about this, that they are pushing hard to get it passed as quickly as possible.
Moreover, the 18 sponsors of the bill claim that its passage is 'necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety,' and therefore 'an emergency is declared to exist.'
This means the bill has to get a vote by the end of the year.
Bolyard also notes:
According to the Beaver Valley Times, 'When the program is complete, every new parent — this includes adoptions — would receive a series of two or three visits by someone like a nurse or other health care practitioner. The visits could include basic health screenings for babies; hooking parents up with primary care physicians; linking them to other services; and coordinating the myriad childhood immunizations that babies need.'
Lots of work for nurses and health practitioners… And the level of enthusiasm for this among the statists is remarkable.
Says Bolyard:
Sen. Elizabeth Steiner Hayward (D-Beaverton), who sits on the powerful Ways and Means Committee that will hammer out the language of the legislation, has said that universal home visits are a priority for her.
A look at Hayward’s major campaign financing sources lets one reach a reasonable conclusion as to why it’s a priority. Interests from the fields of healthcare and nursing top her donor list.
Hayward and the supporters of SB 526 are generally Democrats, which prompts some pertinent questions...
Remember when Democrats claimed to support “privacy”? Many observers knew that was false. After all, the privacy of one’s bank account and salary have never been part of that concern for “privacy”, and, it seems, the privacy of the home is unimportant to them now, because they want access to “help the children”.
Leftists care so much about young human beings.
In fact, many of these same politicians care so much, they’ve worked their darndest to make sure Oregon is a magnet for abortions. The state is known across the US as one of the biggest pro-abortion states in the Union. As Blair Stenvick wrote for PortlandMercury:
Abortion access in the US is already wildly inconsistent across state lines, making Oregon a destination for women seeking affordable and non- judgmental reproductive health care.
Beautiful. We get to see politicians who are inconsistent about privacy, inconsistent about the right of people to be free from warrantless state searches, inconsistent on the right to a fair trial, inconsistent about property rights, and inconsistent about human life and its importance.
It’s remarkable, educational, and leads one to speculate what might be “seen” by inspectors when they enter these homes (sans warrants) to protect the kids who could have been aborted just weeks or days earlier… Perhaps they’ll keep their eyes out for firearms, or for “unsafe” homes that don’t conform to certain building codes, or for medicines that might be unacceptable to the great overlords of the state, or for smokers, or…
If the people of the Founding Era could see this, they wouldn’t hesitate to take action.
We’ll see what the politicians in Oregon do, but, already, this is a very bad sign for the status of individual and parental rights. For a long time, people have warned about the encroaching “cradle-to-grave” powers that some politicians would like to see wielded by the omnipotent state.
This move by the left in Oregon is precisely the “cradle” about which those people worried.
