Sen. Bernie Sanders, the longest serving independent in congressional history, ironically confused President Trump and former President Obama while talking immigration on CNN Sunday.

In an interview with Jake Tapper on “State of the Union,” the Vermont senator and self-identified socialist said that the country needs "comprehensive immigration reform." He went on to deliver this gaffe:

"We need Obama — we need Trump now to make it clear that the United States of America is not a nation which tears children from their parents.”

Putting an end to the practice of separating illegal alien children from their families doesn’t seem to be enough for Sanders, as he expressed on Twitter his displeasure with Trump’s executive order ending the policy.

“Trump’s executive order merely replaces one inhumane act with another,” Sanders tweeted.

“In response to the overwhelming public outrage at his policy of tearing children away from their parents at the border, this administration thinks the appropriate response is to indefinitely detain families,” he concluded.

So first, it was inhumane to separate illegal immigrant families, but now it's also inhumane to detain illegal alien children with their families?

What, then, is the solution, Sen. Sanders? Open borders?
