After the Democratic National Committee (DNC) announced its “sanctioned” presidential debate lineup, Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley allegedly accused the DNC of “facilitating a coronation” for his opponent, Hillary Clinton.
O’Malley reportedly said in a statement, “By inserting themselves into the debate process, the DNC has ironically made it less democratic. The schedule they have proposed does not give voters — nationally, and especially in early states — ample opportunity to hear from the Democratic candidates for President. If anything, it seems geared toward limiting debate and facilitating a coronation, not promoting a robust debate and primary process.”
O’Malley also vocalized his anger at the DNC on Facebook. In a video, O’Malley accused the DNC of circling the wagons and closing off debates:
He posted an infographic drawing attention to the fact that over time, the number of Democratic debates has been decreasing:
O’Malley has been vocal about his belief that the Democrats are trying to slant the primary in favor of Clinton. He has said the presidency is “not some crown to be passed between two families.”
