Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez implied that Israel was occupying Palestine. When the interviewer asks for her to explain, she admitted that she didn't exactly know what she was talking about.
The socialist Democratic candidate, who defeated incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley in the Democratic primary for New York’s 14th congressional district, recently appeared on The Firing Line on PBS to discuss her ideas and plans.
In addition to discussing how she defines “democratic socialism,” her plans for higher education, and immigration, Ocasio-Cortez weighed in on the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
When asked about a tweet of hers from mid-May where she referred to Israel defending its borders as a “massacre,” the Democratic nominee said she looks at these kind of issues through the lens of an “activist.”
She then continued by saying, “I also think that what people are starting to see, at least, in the occupation of Palestine is just an increasing crisis of humanitarian condition.”
When pressed on her use of the term “occupation of Palestine,” Ocasio-Cortez says she was referring to “settlements” where Palestinians are finding it hard to find and have “access to their housing and homes.”
Then she was asked to clarify what she meant and she said, “I am not the expert on geopolitics on this issue.”
Ocasio-Cortez also talked about how she expects "an evolution in our economic system of an unprecedented degree."
“We [millennials] never experienced really a time of true economic prosperity in the United States,” she said. “We are going to see an evolution in our economic system of an unprecedented degree and it’s hard to say which direction that that takes.”
