On Friday afternoon, a police officer saw a boy jump off the side of a 30-foot-high overpass on her way to work. With the help of a military officer who rushed to aid in her rescue efforts, she was able to save the teenager's life.

Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., police officer Jessie Ferreira Cavallo was driving through Yonkers, N.Y., on Friday when she saw a teenager running along the side of the road, climb up a guardrail on an overpass, and jump off onto some concrete.

She stopped her car, grabbed all the first-aid supplies she could stuff into her pockets, and ran over to the boy.

"I wasn't thinking too much," Cavallo said. "I just knew, when I looked down and saw him ... he looked dead. I couldn't see anything other than blood. I thought to myself, 'He needs help. I need to help him.'"

She said another woman in a military uniform stopped to help her once she saw what was going on. She and the military officer worked together to put a neck brace and splint on the boy, who was unresponsive.

"Both me and her together, we were able to aid him and assist him," she said.

Cavallo said she had such an adrenaline rush that she didn’t even realize what she had done until a day later.

"Friday, after this whole thing happened, I went to work and worked to 11 p.m.," she said. "I didn't realize what was going on until yesterday. That's when it hit me. I didn't realize how high it was. It seemed doable. It didn't seem that high. I thought I jumped over a brick wall, or a cement barrier. It was so fast. It was more like tunnel vision. I saw the boy and I needed to get to him. I didn't see anything else."

Cavallo has won six awards for saving other people’s lives throughout the years, but she is really humble about it. "I just hope that he's doing well," she said. "I just want to give him a hug."

Thankfully, the boy, who is approximately 12 or 13 years old, is expected to survive, according to reports. He is being treated at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for broken bones and other injuries.
