Even if some leftists have a degree of faith in their lives, leftist ideology itself seems to see religion as a barrier to total and complete control over people. Religion is the one thing that people will openly fight the government about, no matter the situation. So it should come as no surprise when a leftist blames religion, across multiple faiths, for their shortcomings as leaders during the pandemic.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) put a bullseye on “religious institutions” on Monday during one of his Venezuelan-dictator-esque COVID press conferences.
“We know religious institutions have been a problem,” Cuomo said. “We know mass gatherings are the super spreader events. We know there have been mass gatherings going on in concert with religious institutions in these communities for weeks.”

“…mass gatherings are the super spreader events.”
How about all of the “peaceful protests” that leftists have seemingly had no problem with since day one? Nothing? Nothing at all? Maybe Cuomo could send those infected into nursing homes, since we know he has such an affinity for them.
During the question-and-answer session following the press conference, Cuomo even went so far as to threaten religious institutions with shutdowns if they don’t abide by the pandemic edicts.
“You’re dealing with government saying to religions, ‘You shouldn’t have more than X people in your church or your mosque or your temple,’” Cuomo said. “That’s a politically uncomfortable situation. You know, I have to say to the Orthodox [Jewish] community tomorrow, ‘If you’re not willing to live with these rules, then I’m going to close the synagogues.’”
Sounds a lot like Germany, circa 1939. Okay, that’s a joke. The left throws those insinuations around all the time, but think about that last sentence Cuomo said — telling the Orthodox Jewish community that their institutions will be shut down if they don’t follow the rules.
That's most likely not be equivalent to 1939 — Cuomo did speak of his long term relationship with the Orthodox community — but that’s a very incendiary statement.
