Nothing Ever Changes: At Least 7 Dead, 23 Wounded in Chicago Weekend Shootings

Nick Kangadis | January 25, 2021

You would think that the weekly repetition of articles talking about shooting victims in the city of Chicago would make a difference or at least a dent in the stupidity of those that run the “Second City,” but you’d be wrong. I’ve been covering Chicago weekend shootings for years now, and while the names of the politicians might change, the bloodshed in what used to be one of the great American cities continues like clockwork.

At least seven people were murdered and another 23 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend. This past weekend’s numbers aren’t much different from the previous weekend, which saw at least six killed and another 18 shot.

Here are the names and ages of those shot and killed in Chicago over the weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:

David Lopez, 34

Unidentified Male, 52

Darryl Houston, 39

Anthony Rice, 24

Unidentified Male, Age Unknown (Details yet to be released by the Cook County medical examiner)

Justin Reyes, 26

Unidentified Female, Age Unknown (Details yet to be released by the Cook County medical examiner)

Only four weekends into 2021 and Chicago has seen at least 24 murdered and 94 wounded on weekends alone. The Chicago Tribune, who keeps a tracker of all Chicagoland shootings, reported that, as of January 21, 156 people have been shot this year. That number is 46 more than at the same point in 2020, which saw the second most shooting victims in the last 10 years of tracking.

Another lackluster sign that Chicago is continuing on their road to nowhere.
