Actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger at a conference on climate change on Monday said that he wishes he could travel back in time to prevent the use of fossil fuels.

According to the Associated Press, Schwarzenegger said at the beginning of the COP24 United Nations Climate Change Conference 2018 in Katowice, Poland, that if the U.S. and nations across the world had not used and become reliant on fossil fuels, “we’d be much better off” right now.

"If we would've never started in that direction and used other technology, we'd be much better off," he said.

"The biggest evil is fossil fuels: it's coal, it's gasoline, it's the natural gas," said Schwarzenegger.

He later delivered remarks where he criticized President Trump, calling him “meshugge" – the Yiddish word for "crazy” – for pulling out of the Obama administration’s Paris climate agreement last year.

Schwarzenegger tried to reassure the 200 nations at the conference that while the Trump administration is "out," U.S. leaders on the state and local levels are "still in."

"Every time you talk about America, you’re right when you say that our leadership in Washington is a little bit backwards, but you’re wrong when you say that America dropped out of the Paris agreement," he said.

"Because if you look a little bit beyond Washington, you will see that it is the states and the cities, it’s local governments, that control 70 percent of our emissions," Schwarzenegger continued. "And you will see all the extraordinary work that is going on at the state and city level in America. The United States is still in.”

"Yes, we have a meshugge leader in Washington that is not in, that is out, but remember that America is more than just Washington or one leader," he said.

Schwarzenegger encouraged the conference to invite American state and local leaders next year so they can “talk to you directly.”

"And if you do that, I promise you: I'll be back," said the "Terminator."
