Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed a bill on Friday that will get rid of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the special private government Walt Disney World was allowed to have in the Orlando-area for decades. DeSantis signed the bill just a day after it passed in the Florida House of Representatives

According to the Associated Press (AP):

The law would eliminate the Reedy Creek Improvement District, as the 55-year-old Disney government is known, as well as a handful of other similar districts by June 2023. The measure does allow for the districts to be reestablished, leaving an avenue to renegotiate its future.

The move could have huge tax implications for Disney, whose series of theme parks have transformed Orlando into one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, and serves to further sour the relationship between the Republican-led government and a major political player in the state.

The move was made after more than a month of the Disney Corporation involving itself politically in attempting to prevent Florida Republicans' Parental Rights in Education bill, falsely known as the "Don't Say Gay" bill. Disney proved itself an illiterate company after continuing to push the narrative that the bill specifically targets and intended to harm members of the LGBTQ community.

DeSantis also signed a separate bill called HB7, also known as the Freedom from Indoctrination bill.

The following is a summary of what the bill does, according to the governor's official website:

The bill includes provisions to prevent discriminatory instruction in the workplace and in public schools and defines individual freedoms based on the fundamental truth that all individuals are equal before the law and have inalienable rights. This legislation is the first of its kind in the nation to take on both corporate wokeness and Critical Race Theory in schools in one act.
