Before a high school softball championship game in California on Friday, the announcer told the crowd there wouldn't be a national anthem prior to the game.

The Fresno Bee reports, those in attendance at Fresno State's Margie Wright Diamond answered with boos – and then took matters into their own hands.

The crowd stood up and began singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" a cappella.

Those involved with the tournament told the Fresno Bee they will now play the anthem before every game.
