MINNEAPOLIS -- Republicans today announced that they have canceled all but essential events on the first day of the GOP convention, which starts here tomorrow. In response, Democrats also in this city to react to the convention issued this statement: "In light of the situation in the Gulf Coast, the Democratic National Committee announced that is has canceled its daily media briefing at the More of the Same Media Center on Monday, September 1." Good idea. The motto "more of the same" encompasses the central Democratic attack on presumptive Republican nominee John McCain, but it isn't exactly the kind of motto that will play well politically as Hurricane Gustav hits the Gulf Coast. -- K.
