An assistant principal in Greenwich, Connecticut has been placed on leave after an undercover report by Project Veritas was published on their website and uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday.

Cos Cob Elementary School Assistant Principal Jeremy Boland was caught on video telling an undercover Project Veritas reporter that he blatantly discriminates against “conservatives” and “Catholics” in his hiring practices, reportedly violating human rights law in Connecticut General Statutes Title 46A.

Under the statute, as noted by Veritas, the law states:

(b) It shall be a discriminatory practice in violation of this section:

(1) For an employer, by the employer or the employer's agent, except in the case of a bona fide occupational qualification or need, to refuse to hire or employ or to bar or to discharge from employment any individual or to discriminate against such individual in compensation or in terms, conditions or privileges of employment because of the individual's race, color, religious creed, age, sex, gender identity or expression, marital status, national origin, ancestry, present or past history of mental disability, intellectual disability, learning disability, physical disability, including, but not limited to, blindness or status as a veteran;

So what exactly were some of the things Borland told the undercover Veritas reporter that got him in such hot water?

“In the hiring process, how can you figure out who is conservative and who’s liberal?” The reporter asked Borland.

“So, I’ve developed a set of questions that I use for almost all my interviews and it’s all leading them to tell a story,” Borland said.

Borland spoke of how he wanted to include questions in the interview process about how a prospective teacher would handle “transgender” or “non-binary” students, and he told the undercover reporter that depending on how the interviewee responds he could determine whether they were conservative or liberal.

As for his discrimination against Catholics, Borland noted that certain religions tend to be more right wing after being asked by the reporter.

“The only one, and I’m not a huge expert on religion but Protestants in this area are probably the most liberal,” Borland said.

“Oh, so then what do you do with the Catholics?” the reporter followed up. “If you find someone is Catholic, then what?”

“You don’t hire them,” Borland said with certainty.

Besides singling out conservatives and Catholics, Borland spoke of his indoctrination methods for students.

“You’re teaching [the kids] how to think,” said Borland. “That’s it. It doesn’t matter what they think about. If they think about it in a logical, progressive way, that becomes their habit.”

As a result of the report on Borland, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Toni Jones reportedly sent an email to “the Greenwich Public Schools community” on Wednesday” conveying that Borland has been placed on administrative leave.

“The following is an update regarding the viral video that contains footage of an administrator at Cos Cob School. Immediately, the staff member was placed on administrative leave,” the email read, according to WTNH. “Once again, we do not support any opinions that promote discriminatory hiring practices based on race, religion, gender, or age in any way, and we want to remind our entire community that our curriculum policies and procedures are strictly enforced by our Board.”
