It took over a year, but the first person to be acquitted of charges in connection to the events of January 6, 2021 was found not guilty on Wednesday.

U.S. District Court Judge Trevor N. McFadden concluded a two-day bench trial by acquitting Matthew Martin of all charges, according to NBC News.

Martin said while he would do things differently given the chance, he “enjoyed everything else” about the events on January 6 outside the U.S. Capitol Building.

Timcast reported the following:

U.S. District Judge Trevor N. McFadden “said that the first charge of entering and remaining in a restricted building was a ‘close call’ but that there was reasonable doubt whether Martin knew he was entering a restricted building (although he said it was ‘more likely than not’ that Martin knew he wasn’t supposed to go inside),” per NBC News.

McFadden also said the government failed to show evidence of Martin crossing the police line, which mobs of protestors had broken before he arrived at the Capitol.

During his April 5 testimony, Martin said he “went with the flow” as he neared the Capitol and that he was waved into the building by a police officer. The prosecution called his statement “nonsense.”

The judge, a former police officer who was appointed by President Donald Trump in 2017, noted that he believed Martin was “largely credible” although he most likely “shaded his testimony on some points, minimizing his actions.” McFadden said the contractor’s conduct was “as minimal and not serious” as he had seen in a Jan. 6 case.

It’s probably fortunate for Martin that he was being tried by a judge appointed by former President Donald Trump, not because of the possibility for favorable treatment, but because had the judge been a George Soros-funded judge, a fair trial for a Trump supporter would’ve been all but out the window.

There’s a lot of things that can be said about the events of January 6, including that it wasn’t an insurrection. The rest I’ll leave up to the pundits and TV talking heads who are considered “experts” in their field while knowing very little about what they’re trying to brainwash others with.
