Free, fair and honest elections. Those waters have been muddied over the years with different issues that have arisen concerning the integrity of multiple elections. One governor has decided to do something about making his state’s involvement in this year’s election more secure.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) signed an executive order on Wednesday that “codifies election security protocols established under his governance for all future elections,” according to Fox News.

The measure, Executive Order 35, makes the voting process much more secure, including:

  • 100% paper ballots which provide a physical record of the voter’s intent
  • Use of paper ballot counting machines, not voting machines
  • Strict chain of custody for ballots with daily reconciliation during early voting
  • Application required to receive a mail ballot — no mass mailing of ballots
  • Counting machines tested prior to every election
  • Counting machines not connected to the internet
  • Drop boxes under 24/7 monitoring

“As we continue to make improvements, the Commonwealth will remain steadfast in its efforts to provide Virginians with the confidence they deserve in their elections,” the EO states. “Our election security model is designed to prevent illegal votes and guarantee legal votes are accurately counted.”

As reported by WVVA, “more than 6,00 non-citizens and nearly 80,000 deceased voters have been removed from voter rolls recently.”

If non-citizens attempt to vote, there will reportedly be repercussions for their actions and will be referred to the proper authorities.

No matter the result, Americans should have the comfort in knowing that the election they vote in, and are passionate about, are on the up-and-up. Although, to be fair, it’s unfortunate that these days a lot of people simply wouldn’t accept the results if they don’t get their desired result. Some may be justified, some may be not.
