With all the choices we have these days in terms of things to watch — whether it’s on TV, YouTube, social media or streaming platforms — it’s insane to think that one singular event could garner as many viewers as people who reportedly voted for former President Joe Biden in 2020.

Combining viewership across all mediums, President Donald Trump’s Inauguration garnered “an estimated 80.7 million viewers,” according to a post on Trump’s Truth Social account.

According to Nielsen, which keeps track of television viewership, “Viewership peaked with 34.4 million viewers during the 12:15 PM quarter-hour.” That means that about 46.3 million people watched Trump take his Oath of Office between the other methods of viewing the inauguration.

As noted in Trump’s Truth Social post, late President Ronald Reagan’s Inauguration held the previous record with 42 million viewers. To be fair to Reagan, you could only view the event on television. However, some might argue that Reagan benefitted from having a captive audience with limited options to possibly watch other programs and content.
