A university in Canada — in accordance with some type of Canadian government ordinance — loves to discriminate against straight, white men apparently. The only thing worse than a place of “higher learning,” is a place of higher learning in Canada. There’s woke, and then there’s Canadian woke.

The University of Victoria (UVIC) in British Columbia, Canada is looking to fill assistant professor positions for their computer science department. But, the position — according to the school’s website — is “limited to members of the following designated group(s): Indigenous peoples, Black people, people with disabilities/disabled persons, racialized people or people of colour, women, and gender diverse peoples.”

Before we go any further, I had no idea what a “racialized” person was. Supposedly, according to the Homeless Hub in Canada’s website, “‘racialized communities’ encompasses all people that are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in colour.”

So basically, screw you, whitey!

That job listing is for a faculty position in Computer Graphics. Then there’s the listing for an assistant professor position in “any area of computer science.”

According to that prompt, “the selection will be limited to members of the following designated group: Black people.”

Both of these positions are in attempt to be compliant with “the University’s Equity Plan and pursuant to section 42 of the BC Human Rights Code.”

British Columbia law states that section 42 includes the following:

42   (1) It is not discrimination or a contravention of this Code to plan, advertise, adopt or implement an employment equity program that

                 (a) has as its objective the amelioration of conditions of disadvantaged individuals or groups who are disadvantaged because of                                       Indigenous identity, race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, physical or mental disability, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity or                         expression, and

                 (b) achieves or is reasonably likely to achieve that objective.

        (2) [Repealed 2002-62-23.]

        (3) On application by any person, with or without notice to any other person, the commissioner may approve any program or activity that                      has as its objective the amelioration of conditions of disadvantaged individuals or groups.

        (4) Any program or activity approved under subsection (3) is not in contravention of this Code.

And then there’s the last listing that discriminates against possible applicants. This one is for an assistant teaching professor position, which is “a limited search for female, gender diverse, or indigenous candidates.” Again, this is in the area of computer science.

Thank you, UVIC. I had no idea that computer science was such an exclusionary field. I mean, who knew white people simply weren’t good at that stuff? Then again, what do people like Bill Gates, the late Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and others know about computers?

Way to go, Canada! We Americans appreciate you giving us yet another example of why the current system you inhabit sucks in stereo.
