Oh, what a difference a week makes.
On Tuesday, newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney visited the White House and spoke with President Donald Trump before giving a statement to reporters in the Oval Office.
“Thank you, Mr. President. I’m on the edge of my seat,” Carney said, beginning his statement. “Thank you for your hospitality, and above all, for your leadership. You’re a transformational president focused on the economy, with a relentless focus on the American worker, securing your borders, ending the scourge of fentanyl and other opioids, and securing the world.”
That’s quite the change of tune from just over a week ago when Carney tried to talk tough in the face of tariffs, saying that his talks with Trump “will be with the full knowledge that we [Canada] have many other options to build prosperity for all Canadians.”
The implication in his comment being that Canada will look elsewhere, reportedly to China, should the two North American nations not be able to come to some understanding that brings a return to Canada only benefitting from the relationship.

It wasn’t all roses at the White House, as Carney did say that he and the president would try to come to some form of agreement on a couple of contentious issues still at hand.
“The history of Canada and the U.S. is we’re stronger when we work together, and there's many opportunities to work together,” Carney began his conclusion. “And I look forward to addressing some of those issues that we have, but also finding those areas of mutual cooperation.”
Marc Carney just said it to President Donald Trump exactly what I said Pierre should have been saying throughout his campaign.

I guess Canada is magically over its TDS.

Very diplomatic, and in stark contrast to Carney’s rhetoric leading up to the meeting and post-Canadian election.
