It’s nice for a change to have a president that’s actually proud of at least some of our history. And the forgotten heroes that kids should look up to — not the fake ones in comic book movies — are the veterans that have served, those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice for this country and the ones who currently serve to protect our freedoms.

Late Thursday evening, President Donald Trump released a video on his Truth Social account announcing an upcoming celebration observing the long, storied history of the U.S. military.

“I am thrilled to invite everyone to an unforgettable celebration, one like you’ve never seen before,” Trump began his announcement. “On Saturday, June 14th, which is Flag Day, we’re honoring the 250th anniversary of the greatest fighting force in history, the United States Army.”

Trump went on to convey that there will be a parade in Washington D.C. on that day that “salutes our soldiers’ remarkable strength and unbeatable spirit.”

For context, according to History.com:

On June 14, 1775, the Continental Congress authorizes the enlistment of expert riflemen to serve the United Colonies for one year. This launches the U.S. Army as America's first national institution, more than a year before the Declaration of Independence is published on July 4, 1776.
