While I’m not advocating for anyone to become a vigilante, how bad has our society become that we can’t rely on the justice system — federally or locally — that people feel it incumbent upon themselves to take matters into their own hands. And of course, despite that, justice was not dealt out once again.
On Tuesday, 43-year-old John Rote attempted to come to the aid of a woman on a New York City subway platform who was being accosted — some say mugged — by a homeless man. Rote brandished his legal firearm and fired two warning shots. Rote was arrested for his actions.
According to the New York Daily News:
Rote, 43, squeezed off a warning shot after watching Matthew Roesch demand the victim pay him $1 following her entrance into the subway through an emergency gate without paying — with the scammer following his target and threatening to steal her purse — said NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny.[…]
Rote and Roesch crossed paths in a Midtown subway station on Tuesday night, with both mugger and shooter taken into custody following the fast-escalating incident. Rote was arrested Wednesday after a tip received by the NYPD Crimestoppers hotline, and Roesch was busted on a charge of attempted robbery.

That’s right. A fellow New Yorker ratted Rote out leading to his arrest. Even the people of that city don’t care about criminals, only people that try to help — and not in a good way, obviously.
Roesch, the mugger, was released “under court-ordered supervision,” but Rote — the alleged hero — has been ordered to be held on $10,000 bail “with Judge Jay Weiner ignoring a defense call for his release.”
Weiner…sounds about right.
Like I said, I’m not advocating for people taking justice into their own hands. But, what are you supposed to do when “justice” doesn’t either?
