MRCTV has been covering the goings on outside the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago the entire week, and we noticed one thing -- the Chicago Police Department (CPD) has been organized, prepared and alert in dealing with protesters and activists during the entire event.
On Wednesday evening, I got to speak exclusively with the First Vice President of the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Michael Mette about the department's preparation ahead of the DNC, the mindset and tactics in dealing with protesters and the job that CPD officers have done thus far.
Mette addressed the hardships that officers encounter in the face of occasionally abusive activists.
"It's tough standing there getting yelled at and screamed at, nasty stuff. You have nothing to do with any of this, you know? I don't know why they keep thinking local law enforcement is part of the national government. But, it is what it is. I just think that those kind of people who are all about that 'tear it all down.' For what? To what end?"
