It’s one thing for a member of Congress to even jokingly say that they want to kill someone. It’s a whole other thing when that member of Congress is also a former Navy SEAL who doubles down and says he’s “not joking” after the person he’s talking to thinks he’s joking.

This seems to be the case for Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas), who denied that he threatened to kill journalist and podcaster Tucker Carlson following an interview with GB News’ Steven Edginton.

For context, Edginton had just finished an interview with Crenshaw who was asked by the interviewer whether he believes he’s a “NeoCon.” Edginton posted to X that Crenshaw said he “would kill [Carlson] If I saw him,” to which Edginton “laughed it off” clearly thinking Crenshaw was joking.

To be fair, Edginton cleaned up Crenshaw’s language, because if you watch the clip Crenshaw clearly says, “If I ever meet him, I’ll f**king kill him.”

Edginton then wrote in the post that Crenshaw responded to his laughter by saying, “No seriously, I would kill him.”

Enter Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.). Greene flat-out asked Crenshaw in an X post, “@DanCrenshawTX did you threaten to kill my friend @TuckerCarlson?”

Crenshaw shockingly responded, “lol, no.”

Well, as Maury Povich might say, “The lie detector determined that was a lie.”

There’s literal video evidence of Crenshaw, not only initially saying that he “would kill” Carlson if he ever met him in person, but doubling down and making it clear that he wasn’t joking.

"I'm not joking," Crenshaw followed up. "He's the worst person."

The panel on the “Timcast IRL” podcast spoke about the issue Monday evening, with host Tim Pool saying that while he believes Crenshaw was most likely joking, but said that it was a “weird” thing to say considering Crenshaw’s position.

“To be fair, he said, ‘I’m not joking,’ but I don’t think he was literally expressing the intent to kill Tucker Carlson,” Pool said. “But it’s a very weird thing to say. And regardless, as a member of Congress, and as you mentioned a former Navy SEAL, talking about a man who routinely receives death threats, to say that you will do that and that you’re not joking…well, it doesn’t matter what I think or my interpretation is, it matters that he said it and said he wasn’t joking, so his intent is expressed.”

“It’s a very bad idea for congresspeople to say that,” panelist Phil Labonte said. “It’s a very, very bad idea for people that have been in, you know, have his training to say that. All thumbs down, Dan.”

It’ll be interesting to see if there’s any blowback for Crenshaw besides public opinion on this matter.
