Stand-up comic Dave Chappelle — arguably the greatest comedian of his generation, and possibly of all-time — came out with a new Netflix special on Sunday, “The Dreamer.” In his new set, Chappelle attempted to distance himself from the rabid fervor of the Marxist left and the trans community that brought him so much grief following his previous Netflix entry.

Chappelle had this to say right off the bat concerning the “T’s,” as he sometimes refers to them.

“If you guys came here, to this show tonight, thinking that I’m going to make fun of those people again, you’ve come to the wrong show. I’m not f**king with those people any more. It wasn’t worth the trouble. I ain’t saying s**t about them. Maybe three or four times tonight, but that’s it.

“I’m tired of talking about them. And you want to know why I’m tired of talking about them? Because these people acted like I needed them to be funny. Well, that’s ridiculous. I don’t need you.”

And he’s right. Chappelle doesn’t need the trans community. They need him much more, because without people like him they have one less person to play the victim card with. But, notice how Chappelle also said that he’s only going to talk about them “three or four times.” What a hilarious caveat, because he definitely did talk about them indirectly a few times, but in making comparisons that make that group’s “plight” seem not as serious as they typically make it out to be.

“Tonight, I’m doing all handicapped jokes,” Chappelle said. “They’re not as organized as the gays, and I love punching down.”

Plus, from the experience of watching other comics over the years, handicapped people do not like being left out when it comes to insult comics. In fact, they love the “inclusion,” according to multiple other comedian’s specials over the years.

As observed by the left-leaning PinkNews, Chappelle did make trans jokes throughout the special, which yours truly did watch.

“If [Chappelle] ever went to jail, he hoped it would be in California because how would tell the judge that he “identifies as a woman” so he would serve time in a “woman’s jail”, Chappelle quipped.

“As soon as I get in there, you know what I’m doing,” he said.

“‘Give me your fruit cocktail, b***h, before I knock your motherf**king teeth out. I’m a girl, just like you, b***h. Come here and suck this girl d**k I got. Don’t make me explain myself, I’m a girl.’”

Chappelle also made a great analogy about the trans community in a joke/story about the first time he met actor/comedian Jim Carrey.

(Warning: Some foul language)

Yes, Chappelle is a little crass for some. But when you realize what he’s attempting to pull off and convey with his jokes, it all makes sense, vulgarity and all. It’s brilliant, really.

And, there are plenty of butt-hurt people on X/Twitter, but I'm not going to give those people the oxygen they so desperately crave.

As for the special in general, it was pretty much an homage to his first hour-long special, which in my opinion is possibly his best, 2000’s “Killin’ Them Softly.” “The Dreamer” was filmed in the same location as the previously mentioned special, 24 years later.

Was “The Dreamer” Chappelle’s best effort? No. Was it good? Yes. Was it great? That answer would necessitate multiple viewings with a look at his backlog as well.

On a five star scale, I’d give “The Dreamer” 3.75 stars. It’s well worth the watch, especially if you’re a Chappelle fan and a fan of the medium.
