NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin might want to stick to sports. Because when it comes to pandemics, his commentary gets a lot less valuable.
The former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver declared on Twitter Thursday that the Mexico-based Corona beer company, which markets its famous – albeit unfortunately named, at the moment – longnecks in need of a lime, should stop advertising their product until the coronavirus pandemic is beyond us.
Since I am not a beer drinker. Maybe it’s just me. But I believe that @corona beer SHOULD NOT be running their commercials at this time. Sorry I don’t want to hear how a Corona gets it’s lime while the Coronavirus is getting lives. pic.twitter.com/QkjHVFGbBa

Of course, Irvin never did say how Corona halting its marketing campaign has a thing to do with the coronavirus, which derives its name from its crown-like spikes.
What is quantifiable, however, is the fact that the pandemic has already wrecked industries from restaurants to movie theaters to bowling alleys, shutting doors on factories and universities and retail chains around the globe. So if Corona can stay in business and run a few ads for their beer while keeping their employees working and paid, that’s something we should all be grateful for – even if it means Irvin has to change the channel.
It should be noted that after getting ratio'd sky-high for his comments, Irvin later played off the whole thing like he was simply trolling and making jokes while cooped up at home in self-isolation. Who knows, maybe he'd had a few too many not-Coronas.
