Twelve-year old Grace VanderWaal shocked the world this week, performing a show-stopping original song, "I Don't Know My Name," on America's Got Talent.
Her lyricism and vocal capabilities were so impressive that judge Howie Mandel was quick to bring his hand down on the famous Golden Buzzer, while resident curmudgeon Simon Cowell made a startling prediction.
"Grace, you know what I predict for you?" Cowell said to a confetti-covered, teary-eyed VanderWaal and her family. "I think you are the next Taylor Swift."
Wow. She clearly has the talent to join the ranks of Swift and other famous artists some day, but those are some hefty expectations!
And personally, I don't think the comparison is necessarily fair. She's got Taylor's style down, from the bangs down to the yellow pants. Yet musically, VanderWaal reminds me more of folk artists like The Lumineers or Florence and the Machine, whereas Swift began as a country artist who's recently transitioned into pop.
