New Zealand’s Prime Minster Jacinda Ardern – the woman, you may recall, who insisted that her constituents simply believe the government’s line on COVID and reject all else off-hand, herded them into "quarantine camps," and is vehemently against the right of supposedly free people to own firearms for self-defense – is back with a new anti-speech, liberty-killing hot take: this time, on internet regulation.

Speaking before the United Nations this week, which tells you just about everything you need to know right there, Ardern called free speech online a “weapon of war,” saying that global leaders “must address” the “challenge of misinformation and disinformation online.”

Translation? Any speech that doesn’t line up with the government-approved narrative.

“How do you successfully end a war if people are led to believe that the reason for its existence is not only legal but noble? How do you take on climate change if people do not believe it exists? How do you ensure that the human rights of others are upheld when they are subjected to hateful and dangerous rhetoric and ideology?" Ardern asked, with as much incredulousness and sincerity as she could muster.

"The weapons may be different, but the goals of those who perpetuate them is often the same: to cause chaos, and reduce the ability of others to defend themselves," she went on.

Entire, then, the government, there to defend the supposedly helpless against the “dangerous rhetoric” of non-governmentally-sanctioned opinions.

“We have an opportunity here to ensure that these particular weapons of war do not become an established part of warfare,” she went on, calling for the “collective will” to curb internet freedom against dissenting speech.
