Update: Authorities have confirmed that 24-year-old Cristhian Bahena Rivera, an undocumented alien, was charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts, whose body was found Tuesday in a field in Brooklyn, Iowa.

New reports indicate Mollie Tibbetts, a 20-year-old Iowa woman whose body was found in a cornfield Tuesday after she was reported missing more than a month ago, may have been murdered by an illegal alien.

From the Washington Post:

More than a month after Mollie Tibbetts went out for a jog and disappeared — and days after investigators searching for the missing Iowa college student said they were focusing their efforts on five locations — her body has been found, the Associated Press reported.

Iowa state investigators said Tuesday they have a suspect in custody who is subject to a federal immigration detainer, typically an indication that the person is present in the United States illegally.

Tibbetts, who was a student at the University of Iowa, was last week jogging the evening of July 18. Her disappearance made national news headlines for weeks as her family held out hope that she would be found alive, going so far as to offer a nearly $400,000 reward for information leading to her safe return.

Authorities announced Tuesday they had found the missing woman's body, but provided few details as to exactly where she was found or how she died.
