A new poll released on Tuesday shows President Trump in the lead against his 2020 Democratic rivals.

The USA TODAY/Suffolk Poll, which was conducted Dec. 10-14 amid impeachment proceedings in the House of Representatives, found Trump ahead of former Vice President Joe Biden by 3 percentage points, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) by 5 points, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) by 8 points.

"In hypothetical head-to-head contests, Trump also led South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg by 10 points and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg by 9," USA Today reports.

Among the Democratic contenders, Joe Biden held the lead at 23 percentage points, ahead of Sanders at 14 percent and Warren at 13 percent.

The rest of the 2020 Democratic hopefuls drew single digits.

Clearly unhappy with the results, USA Today made sure to point out the following:

Polls taken nearly a year before an election are hardly a reliable indicator about what the eventual outcome will be, especially when the other nominee hasn't been chosen.

USA Today did have to admit, however, that "the findings do indicate that impeachment hearings detailing what critics see as Trump's violations of the Constitution and his oath of office haven't undermined his core political support.”
