If you've ever wondered how to lose your sports-fan base in a way that is quick, efficient, and reaches the most devout of your base, then look no further than the National Football League.

According to a new poll by the Winston Group, the NFL has managed to lose audience favorability at a shocking rate, dropping 31 percentage points -- from 73 to 42 -- in a single month.

The negative response from fans follows an increase in NFL player protests during the singing of the National Anthem before games.

The Winston poll's findings, initially provided to the Washington Examiner, not only showed that the NFL has lost 23 percent favorability among male viewers (representing the core of its base), it also showed that the NFL is now the least favorable sport among professional and college organizations.

The Hill reported that the survey of 1,000 registered voters took place between August 29-30 and September 28-29, and also showed that Major League Baseball now holds the top spot as America's preferred sport of choice.

The data seems to suggest that fans would much rather see their favorite teams play the game instead of subjecting audiences to literal political theatre.

If they want to retain the rest of their flagging fanbase, perhaps players should concentrate a little more on their sport, and a little less on this:
