New Burger King Ad Shows More People Standing Up for a Mangled Burger Than a Bullied Kid

What would you do if you were sitting in a fast-food restaurant attempting to eat your meal, and you see a high school kid getting bullied and picked on by their peers?

That is the issue raised by a new ad from fast-food giant Burger King.

Since the month of October is National Bullying Prevention Month, Burger King decided to conduct a social experiment in which they staged a junior high-aged student getting bullied by other kids to see how many people would stand up for him.

At the same time, Burger King had one of its employees “bully” a Whopper Jr. by smashing it, then serving it to the same people who were watching the kid getting picked on.

Burger King used a statistic from the website nobully.org that says that “30% of students [worldwide] are the target of bullying and cyberbullying.”

During their filmed study, Burger King claimed that 95 percent of customers reported the “bullied” burger, but only 12 percent of patrons stood up for the bullied high school kid.

That’s a problem.

If you get served a mangled burger, you should absolutely complain and receive a replacement. But, you also shouldn’t sit idly by and do nothing while a child is essentially being mentally, and sometimes physically, tortured.
