The U.S. House Education and Workforce Committee has passed a bill blocking transgender girls from competing in school sports with real, biological girls.

The measure, known as the “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023” passed through committee on Thursday and could go before the full House by the end of the month.

The chair of the Education and Workforce Committee, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) said the bill was the Republican Party’s “commitment to America.”

“Men are not women, women are not men,” she said. “They certainly shouldn’t compete against each other in any publicly funded arena.”

The bill amends Title IX to forbid transgenders from competing with biological female athletes."It shall be a violation of subsection (a) for a recipient of Federal financial assistance who operates, sponsors, or facilitates athletic programs or activities to permit a person whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designated for women or girls."
