Famed NASCAR racer Dale Earnhardt Jr., his wife, and one-year-old daughter, Isla, are reportedly “safe” after a plane they were on crashed at a small airport in Elizabethton, Tenn., on Thursday.

Local station WHJL reports that the FAA indicated a plane, a Cessna Citation jet “belonging to JRM Air, LLC based in Mooresville, North Carolina rolled off the end of a runway around 3:40 p.m.”

Following the crash, it was reported that Earnhardt Jr. and his family were taken to the Johnson City Medical Center.

Earnhardt Jr. sustained minor injuries described by Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford as cuts and abrasions.

Lunceford also revealed that there was one other passenger and a family dog on the plane.

Earnhardt Jr.’s sister, Kelley Earnhardt, tweeted that, “Everyone is safe and has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation.”

The crash is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

The jet seemed to roll off into State Route 91, as there were several pictures of the scene tweeted from the highway.

According to WJHL, “Elizabethton Police Chief Jason Shaw says State Route 91 will likely remain closed until 7 p.m. Friday following today’s plane crash.”

Video after the crash showing smoke coming from the private jet has gone viral.
