Unauthorized drones are mysteriously appearing near major landmarks all over central Paris for the second night in a row, and police have no idea who is flying them.

Police said the drones were seen flying close to the U.S. embassy, near the Invalides military museum, the Eiffel Tower, near the old city gates, and close to Place de la Concorde, according to AFP.

French media reported five sightings between 23:00 on Tuesday and 2:00 a.m. Wednesday local time, reported the BBC.

“Is it a game? Scouting for future operations? The investigation will show us,” a Parisian police chief said Tuesday.

Not one of the drones flying illegally in Paris -- because those haven't been caught yet.

Footage of the drones was captured on camera and a team of 10 are investigating where the drone is coming from. The U.S. Secret Service is in contact with French officials, a law enforcement source told CNN today.

Scarily, this isn’t the only mysterious drone activity the French have seen – in 2014, drones were spotted near nuclear plants, over the presidential palace, and near a strategic coastline in Brittany where nuclear submarines are kept, according to AFP.

The BBC reports that flying drones at night is illegal and one cannot fly a drone without authorization in Paris.
