NASA released an awe-inspiring five-year time-lapse video of the sun on Wednesday in celebration of the Solar Dynamics Observatory’s fifth anniversary since it launched on Feb. 11, 2010.

The video captures one frame every 8 hours starting when SDO data of the sun became available in June 2010 to Feb. 2015. According to NASA, the different colors represent the various wavelengths with which the station observes the sun and examines its influence on Earth.

Check out the breathtaking video below.

Isn't it amazing how far our space technology has come?

SDO’s fifth anniversary also marks the launch of the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite, an aircraft created with the purpose of delivering "better data for better space weather forecasts."

Capabilities include providing advanced warning of potentially harmful solar activity, capable of affecting power grids, communications systems, and satellites close to Earth.

Watch the epic SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket take flight onto its million-mile journey.
