Elon Musk said he would reverse the Twitter ban on former President Donald Trump and many others if his bid is successful.

At a livestream event hosted by the Financial Times, Musk said "I think it was a morally bad decision to be clear and foolish in the extreme."

“I think that it was not correct to ban Donald Trump – I think that was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the country.”

Musk noted the move resulted in Trump moving to Truth Social along with a many in the right – a fact that hurts Twitter as “a single forum where everyone can debate.”

Musk said he does believe that temporary suspensions are more appropriate when people say things that are illegal, or particular tweets should be limited in reach. Musk said that permanent bans of Twitter accounts should be rare.

“I believe permanent bans eliminate trust in Twitter as a town square where everyone can voice their opinion,” Musk said.
