According to MTV, if you don’t understand the point of Black History Month, you want to live in a world without modern technology, hip music, and the land obtained through the Louisiana Purchase.

A recently released video on MTV News “Decoded” features Franchesca Ramsey lecturing a white man named Chad about inventions that would apparently no longer exist if a month dedicated to black history was not created in 1976.

After Chad laments over the existence of a Black History Month without a White History Month counterpart, Ramsey turns Chad’s family into a stereotypical Croc-wearing white family.

Ramsey then tells Chad, “Without black inventors, our world would’ve missed out on huge advancements in cell phone technology, gaming consoles, and personal computers. Not to mention important shoe making techniques, light bulbs that last more than a few days, and delicious, delicious potato chips.”

“A world without black history is completely different,” Ramsey claims, despite the fact that a lack of a Black History Month would not eliminate achievements made by blacks throughout history.

When Chad insists, “all that stuff would’ve gotten invented anyway,” Ramsey asks rhetorically, “If all inventions are inevitable, then why celebrate any inventors, Chad?”

After killing off Chad’s grandpa because the inventor of the pacemaker is black, Ramsey goes through a list of other things that would not exist without a Black History Month: rock music, country music, the New York financial sector, and the Louisiana Purchase.

At the end of the video, Chad is convinced and thanks God for the creation of Black History Month.
