After calling for all cops and capitalists to be strangled with their own intestines, Nathan Jun, a philosophy professor at Midwestern State University Texas, has decried the backlash he has received as a result. Despite clearing his Facebook page, the full statement of Nathan June has been preserved stating:

I want the entire world to burn until the last cop is strangled with the intestines of the last capitalist, who is strangled in turn with the intestines of the last politician.

Since Jun's post, MSU Texas has released a statement last week, defending Jun's post as protected by the First Amendment, making him "free from institutional censorship or discipline." Dr. Jun himself, claims MSU has rewarded him for his outspoken politics , "Far from attempting to silence or discipline me on this account, the university instead awarded me tenure and promoted me in rank twice."

The actions of MSU follow a previous statement from the university in 2019 in which they stated:

When, however, free speech is used to incite illegal activity or threaten persons or communities, it can and will be addressed. Hate speech that threatens the safety of our campus community is not protected and will not be tolerated.

How Jun's call to violence does not fall under the category of inciting crime or threatening communities is left unclear from MSU's statement. Instead of walking back his statement, however, Jun says he still holds to his position, although he notably retracted the gory details:

I do long to live in a world in which we no longer have cops, which we no longer have capitalists and which we no longer have politicians. Because those are my political beliefs and I own them and I make no apologies for those beliefs.

In response to backlash, Nathan Jun seems to be upset by the calls to violence against him, stating that, "threats, vandalism, and hate speech are crimes that will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

An interesting statement considering how easily Jun's comments could be interpreted as hate speech or threats.
