With such high standards for dumb-assery on social media these days, reaching peak stupid on Twitter is actually quite the challenge. Today’s award for Stupidest Tweet goes to Clara Jeffery, editor-in-chief of the uber-progressive Mother Jones, with an honorable mention going to Washington Post faux-conservative blogger Jennifer Rubin.
Apparently lacking that part of the brain that tells you when you’re about to say something colossally moronic, Jeffery tweeted Thursday that the series of bombs (or at least, bomb-like instruments) sent to a series of liberal politicians, celebrities and news pundits this week has been a “mass assassination attempt” of unprecedented proportions.

.@JRubinBlogger is correct: we've never seen a mass assassination attempt on this level before.
Conveniently, Jeffery must have forgotten that not a year and a half ago, a crazy left-wing Bernie Sanders supporter shot up an entire baseball field full of GOP congressmen, injuring four people and nearly killing House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.
Unfortunately for Jeffery, Twitter didn’t forget.
This is a pretty stupid tweet just 16 months after the Republican softball practice was shot up.

Steve Scalise would like to have a conversation with you and @JRubinBlogger

You may want to speak with Steve Scalise.

But hey, who needs facts when you have a fear-mongering leftist narrative to peddle weeks before the midterms, right?
