'Morning Joe' Skewers Dramatic 'SNL' Cold Open

In the most recent episode of “Saturday Night Live,” the cold open to the show featured Kate McKinnon dressed as Hillary Clinton in her typical fashion – except it was not funny. This is not opinion: she was not attempting to be funny on the comedy show.

Instead, she sang “Hallelujah” by the late Leonard Cohen while she played the piano. At the end of the dramatic performance, she simply said, “I’m not giving up. And neither should you. And live from New York, it’s Saturday night!”

The folks over at MSNBC’s "Morning Joe" did not like it.

“I like it when they’re funny,” co-host Mika Brzezinski said. “That’s all I’m gonna say. Please don’t get serious. Just don’t.”

“Oh my gosh, that cold open,” Joe Scarborough bellowed. “And people wonder why… half of America thinks the media elites are extraordinarily disconnected.”

Scarborough remarked, “It’s only funny when they’re making fun of people that they don’t understand. This is what happens when they don’t understand what’s happening in America.”

The segment ends with Scarborough saying, “It’s that elitism… that permeates popular culture. And it’s the reason why the Democrats were so blindsided by this. It’s the reason why the Democratic Party was so blinded by this. It’s why the media never saw it coming.”
