More American Voters Getting Behind Trump's Agenda, Say Congress Should, Too

2.5k views

According to a new poll, more and more Americans are throwing their support behind President Trump’s agenda and say Congress should, too.

Rasmussen reports,

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 31% of Likely U.S. Voters believe the new Congress will be better than the one that has served for the past two years. Thirty-four percent (34%) think the new Congress will be worse, while 23% feel it will be about the same. Twelve percent (12%) are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

As they look to the year ahead though, 41% say that Congress should do more of what Trump wants, up from 29% in January 2017. Slightly more (48%) say that the president should do what Congress wants, down from 56% in the prior survey. Twelve percent (12%) are undecided.

The Rasmussen survey of 1,000 likely U.S. voters was conducted Jan. 6-7, just prior to the President’s Address to the Nation where he made his case to the American people the need for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and other border security measures. Whether the address convinced more Americans that Congress should follow his lead remains to be seen.

Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi following the address again voiced their opposition to the President's funding request, blaming Trump for the ongoing partial government shutdown.

The shutdown has entered its 19th day with no sure end in sight.
