Mock Funeral for Victims of ‘Structural Racism' at Ivy League College

Mock funerals and “Die-Ins” are an occasional tactic employed by left-wing protesters who are trying to make a statement about a perceived injustice. Now the protest genre has found its way to America’s college campuses.

Last Friday, as part of the University of Pennsylvania’s ongoing “Ferguson Friday” series of events and lectures, a group of students held a mock funeral for “black and brown bodies murdered by structural racism and capitalism both domestically and globally.”

The students carried a casket and poured water in a bucket which the students described as an “African Tradition.”

Students gave speeches and red poetry decrying the world’s history of alleged “structural racism.”

On previous “Ferguson Friday’s” at the college students have stood over fake bloody corpses while dressed in police uniforms and set up a mock graveyard on campus.

Of course, “Ferguson Friday” revolves around the events surrounding the death of Michael Brown, who’s shooting has become a rallying cry for civil rights organizations who view the shooting as an injustice and example of police racism. This despite the fact that all the facts have not been publically presented and the Grand Jury who is examining the case has not yet released a verdict.

One anonymous spectator criticized the event in an interview with Campus Reform.

“It was so over-the-top for a standpoint that’s not even solidified,” the attendee said. “None of this would have been happening if Michael Brown hadn't been killed, but we’re not even looking at the facts or evidence. They’re going through great lengths to make this display and not paying attention to what is actually going on. It just seems like a show.”
