Maria Chappelle-Nadal, the Missouri state senator who found herself embroiled in public controversy after posting online that she hopes President Trump gets assassinated, has been booted by her own Democratic counterparts from all committee assignments in the state legislature.

Chappelle-Nadal made waves last Thursday when she responded to a user on Facebook, saying, "I hope Trump is assassinated!" in a now-deleted comment. She later posted, then deleted, a tweet suggesting President Trump would put Missouri Governor Eric Greitens, a Jew, into a concentration camp.

KSDK reports Chappelle-Nadal was removed from all of her eight committee assignments this week, and could find herself out of the legislature entirely. According to the local article, Senate Democratic Caucus leader Sen. Gina Walsh called Chappelle-Nadal a "distraction" before announcing the news.

But that might not be the end of the rocky road for the disgraced lawmaker. Missouri Lt. Gov. Mike Parson has said he plans to call for Chappelle-Nadal’s total resignation under a state rule that allows a sitting lawmaker to be booted from office by a two-thirds majority vote in the state Senate. Governor Eric Greitens, along with Missouri Democratic Party Chairwoman and U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, have also called for Chappelle-Nadal to recuse herself from office.

For her part, Chappelle-Nadal has so far said she regrets making the comment, but has refused to apologize for it. In response to questions over whether or not she plans to resign, her response has been a resounding “Hell no.”
