The New York Times has published a series of articles criticizing the Junior Reserves Officer Training Corps (JROTC) for holding classes in public high schools across the country, arguing that the organization is “militarizing” students.

JROTC, with funding from the National Rifle Association (NRA), has chapters in high schools throughout the country, and their goal is to provide participants with valuable character and self-discipline lessons.

"Focus, concentration, self-discipline and self-control. That’s what a shooter takes away from marksmanship,” one instructor said.

JROTC uses air guns to teach students how to properly use firearms, and the organization’s overall mission is, “To motivate young people to be better citizens.” Sinister? The Times and some lefties are framing JROTC as taking advantage of vulnerable children.

Caitlin Johnstone, a Substack writer, accused JROTC of being “military groomers.”

Two articles published on December 11 by the Times have headlines that frame JROTC in a bad light. One reads, "Thousands of Teens Are Being Pushed Into Military’s Junior R.O.T.C." The other headline lambasted JROTC textbooks for teaching "outdated gender messages" with "conservative shading" of political issues: "J.R.O.T.C. Textbooks Offer an Alternative View of the World.”

"At a time when many districts are going to great lengths to keep guns out of schools, J.R.O.T.C. has become one of the few programs on campuses that promote weapons training," the Times wrote

Honestly, what JROTC is doing during an age of school shootings is actually the best thing that could happen.

The majority of kids in the next generation -- heck, even in my generation -- were not taught how to use guns properly and further conditioned to fear them simply because of the harm they can cause when used irresponsibly.

However, if kids are taught how to use firearms as a tool to protect themselves and others, and done so in a setting where they can learn several valuable life lessons along the way, there’s no telling how big of a positive impact that can have on thousands of students.

But because progressives hate firearms and the Second Amendment, they’ll do anything they can to frame guns as inherently wicked, and anyone who would try to teach responsible gun marksmanship and ownership as evil people.
