In a treacly and cringe-inducing segment on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” the show’s female writers - and surprise guest Miley Cyrus - wrote “thank-you notes” to former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Writers Caroline Eppright, Becky Kraus, Albertina Rizzo, Jo Firestone, and Marina Cockenberg came on stage, sat in host Fallon’s chair, and shared their thanks to Clinton. They were accompanied by a light piano theme.

"Thank you, Hillary Clinton, for being the first female candidate to run in a presidential election from a major American party," one staffer wrote.

“Thank you Hillary Clinton for handling this difficult transition with more grace than I ever could have imagined,” offered another. “That being said, call me day or night and I will be there with a gallon of ice cream and two sons to tell you, ‘Girl, you are so much better than him.’”

“I was with her, I’m still with her, and right now I literally am with her,” said another.

Hillary laughed and took selfies, gave out hugs, and looked moved.

The biggest surprise came at the end, when pop star Miley Cyrus, who was in the midst of a week-long residency at “The Tonight Show,” came on stage to tearfully write a personal thank-you to Clinton. She said, while writing: "Thank you Hillary for being a constant beacon of strength, hope and determination for me and millions of other young women. Yo’ve been a  role model and an inspiration and voice of reason in uncertain times. I’d could go on and on but I’d like to get right to the point: Can I give you a hug?"

Cyrus then hugged Clinton, who responded by quoting one of the singer's songs: "As Miley would say, 'We can't stop, and we won't stop.' "
