Former First Lady Michelle Obama on Thursday chastised Hillary Clinton and Eric Holder for calling for political warfare against President Trump and the Republican Party.
Obama in a live interview with NBC’s “Today” show stood by her mantra, “When they go low, we go high.”
“Fear ... it's not a proper motivator,” Obama said. “Hope wins out, and if you think about how you want your kids to be raised, how you want them to think about life and their opportunities, do you want them afraid of their neighbors? Do you want them angry? Do you want them vengeful?”
She went on, “If we think of the values that we try to promote to our children … Which motto do you want them to live by? And I have to think about that as a mother.”
Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder at a Democratic rally in Georgia on Sunday did away with the former first lady’s motto, saying, “No. When they go low, we kick them.”
“That’s what this new Democratic Party’s about,” said Holder, who’s reportedly mulling over a potential presidential run in 2020.
His comments came after Hillary Clinton in an interview with CNN last Tuesday said that, “You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about.”
“That’s why I believe, if we are fortunate enough to win back the House and/or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again,” said Clinton. “But until then, the only thing Republicans seem to recognize and respect is strength.”
Obama during the Thursday interview disagreed with Holder and Clinton, arguing that she wants her children and the next generation to “grow up with promise and hope, and we can’t model something different if we want them to be better than that.”
