In just another example of how Americans lose when it comes to illegal immigration, Acting Secretary of the Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan testified before the House Oversight and Reform Committee last week saying that massive resources have been redirected in the medical care of illegal aliens instead of defending the border.

“We are being faced with a younger and sicker population this year than we’ve ever seen at the border before,” McAleenan said during the hearing. “We see a lot of communicable disease, a lot of severe illnesses. In some cases, we’ve had immediate surgery required for congenital defects—they actually came to the border to have surgery.”

According to The Epoch Times,

Agents have spent 250,000 hours—the equivalent of 28 years—at hospitals with sick individuals...Since January, the DHS has conducted more than 400,000 medical health interviews with illegal aliens encountered by Border Patrol, as well as 80,000 more in-depth medical assessments in custody.

The health of illegal aliens when they cross the border, coupled with the severely overcrowded detention facilities, has led to a catastrophic scenario.

This "younger and sicker" invasion has left American taxpayers with a hefty bill. The true cost has not been for the American people has not yet been determined. One America News, however, has an estimate that they compiled using data from various government entities and research institutes totaling cost of illegal immigration, so far this year, to around $151 billion.

In the face of criticism for the treatment of migrants at border detention facilities, McAleenan called on Congress to act.
