UPDATE: Police 'Stand Down' Terror Investigation After Reports of Shots Fired at Oxford Circus Subway Station in London

UPDATE 1:15 P.M. EST: 

Metropolitan Police have called off their search for evidence and suspects after there were reports of shots fired on Oxford Street and underground at the Oxford Circus subway station on Friday. 

Police announced in a statement that the incident has been "stood down" but some cordons and additional officers will remain on the scene "to reassure the public."

Police are asking that if anyone sees anything suspicious, that they call "999" immediately. 

After police received numerous calls reporting shots fired in the subway station and mass panic ensued on the iconic central London street, armed officers were deployed to the area.

Metropolitan Police treated the incident as if it were a terrorist attack. 

Police could not find any evidence of shots fired. There were no casualties.

Armed police are on the scene at Oxford Street in central London after there were reports of shots fired on the street and underground at the Oxford Circus subway station on Friday.

People reportedly ran out of the subway station onto the street screaming and caused mass panic among shoppers there for Black Friday. 

One woman sustained a minor injury when leaving the subway station, a spokesman for British Transport Police said

Metropolitan Police are investigating the incident but “have not located any trace of suspects, evidence of shots fired or casualties,” the department wrote on Twitter.

Police are still advising people to stay inside, with reports of people hiding in shops such as Top Shop and Nike UK. 

Others are on the street are advised to leave the area. 

There were multiple reports of shots fired on Oxford Street and underground at the Oxford Circus subway station. Police responded as if the incident was a terrorist attack, Metropolitan Police said in a statement

Video purports to show people evacuating the street after the incident occurred.
