When his son, Matthew, was five years old, Dennis Hannan received his report card in the mail and spotted that it was addressed to the parents of “Ruby Rose Hannan.”
Though at first Hannan believed that the school got the wrong child, the ugly truth soon hit him: his ex-wife was transitioning their son.
“I felt crushed,” Hannan said. “I was essentially the last to know.”

However, after being threatened with jail and losing full medical authority, Hannan has managed to save his son’s life, and he appeared on a video interview with Chaya Raichik, otherwise known as Libs of TikTok, to speak out.
“I think that true change starts with exposure,” he said, “and if I have to be the first boot to drop on something like this happening so that it sparks true reform and change then so be it.”
