Animal control may soon be called in to handle furries in school.

Oklahoma House Bill 3084, introduced by state representative Justin Humphrey, would allow schools to contact animal control to remove students who identify as “furries.”

“Students who purport to be an imaginary animal or animal species, or who engage in anthropomorphic behavior commonly referred to as furries at school shall not be allowed to participate in school curriculum or activities,” the bill reads.

“The parent or guardian of a student in violation of this section shall pick the student up from the school, or animal control services shall be contacted to remove the student.”

The “furry” subculture is composed of individuals with an interest in anthropomorphic animals. Those in the subculture create mascots, or “fursonas,” for themselves and will often go as far as identifying as animals.

“People are going to call me insane for running this bill,” Humphrey said in a social media video. “Hell, I’d say they’re insane. If you’ve got an animal coming to school, how about we get them vaccinated? How about we get them neutered, and how about we send them to the pound? I don’t want to see some kid going to the bathroom in […] a litter box.”

“Those people up there have lost their mind, letting these people pretend to be animals in the classroom,” he continued. “If they’re going to be animals, let’s send them to the pound.”
